We’ve loved seeing your gluten free Christmas cakes & bakes. As the below picture demonstrates, you have been really busy! We know, when you’ve slaved over the stove, it’s hard to see any left-overs being put to waste. To help you store all your gluten free snacks for longer, we asked our talented home economist, Gill Marzcak, for her gluten free snacks storage tips. In this blog, Gill has given us her top tips to help coeliacs enjoy maximum taste and minimum waste this winter.
All gluten free cakes, even gluten free jaffa cakes, are best stored in an airtight container.
Rich Fruit cakes are best wrapped in greaseproof and then in foil, these will keep for 5 – 6 weeks, even longer if dosed with Brandy.
Wrap cake in cling film, and then in foil.
For small cakes or buns freeze in a plastic container ensuring as much air as possible is removed from the container by closing the lid and then opening a corner and re closing.
Brownies or a fruit cake are best wrapped in greaseproof paper and then in foil before freezing.
And always remember to label the container with the contents and date of freezing!
Biscuits are best not frozen.
Do not store biscuits and cakes in the same container as this will cause the biscuits to soften.
Wrap open biscuits in cling wrap and then place in an airtight container.
